Robert Demuth was from New Philadelphia, OH. He was one of the men of Company G occupying the top of Hill 260 on Bougainville when the Japanese launched their ferocious March 1944 offensive on the island. As the men from the 182nd were overrun, Demuth held his ground, allowing others to withdraw safely. He was killed in this brave action, and later awarded a Bronze Star.
